Employment Opportunity – Food Service Manager

Brethren Woods, an ACA accredited camp and retreat center located near Harrisonburg, VA, seeks an innovative, dedicated Food Service Manager to plan and coordinate camp food service for the benefit of camp’s programs, events, and retreat guests scheduled throughout the year.
The Food Service Manager is responsible for managing the varied duties related to camp’s food service needs for summer camp programs, rental guest groups, and year-round special events, including fundraisers. This includes tasks in menu planning, budgeting, staff supervision and scheduling, equipment maintenance, sanitation, and hospitality.
The successful individual must be committed to the camp’s ministry and able to provide quality food service and superior hospitality within the camp and retreat context. Demonstrated skills in menu planning, culinary arts, quantity food service, organization and time management, written and verbal communication, and a willingness to learn new skills are required. High school diploma or GED is required with a preference for training, education, and/or experience in food service management and staff supervision. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to work independently, and also exhibit a spirit of cooperation and commitment to a team relationship with other paid and volunteer camp staff.
This is a quarter-time, year-round, salaried position based on an average of 10 hours per week with more hours during the summer season, less hours in the fall and spring, and limited hours in the winter. This is an extremely flexible position and allows for making one’s own schedule including working some hours from home, if preferred, with a mix of evenings, weekend, and seasonal mid-week hours. Additional hours, if desired, are available when fulfilling the role of Head Cook, as scheduled.
